Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin Updated to v1.4

I have issued yet another update to the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin. It’s a pretty exciting update with some fixes and new features!

New Review Indexes!

I have added two new review indexes: reviews sorted by genre, and reviews sorted by publisher! These can be displayed with [index-genre] and [index-publisher] respectively.

Social Media Followers – New Feature

First, I have changed the method for caching social media followers. But more importantly, your number of Goodreads friends can now update automatically! All you have to do is put your Goodreads username into the settings field and then it will automatically pull your friend count!

RSS Feed Fix

One of the UBB features is that spoilers are automatically removed from RSS feeds and e-mails. This is honestly an EXTREMELY tricky feature. I’m beginning to realize why I was never able to find a plugin to do this for me. The problem is compatibility. The first method I used required that all posts have 100% valid HTML, which most bloggers don’t. So, I switched to a new method. But this new method isn’t supported by all shared web hosts, and honestly, there’s no way around that. If your web host doesn’t support this feature, then when you try to visit your feed ( www.yoursite.com/feed ) you will encounter an obvious error.

So in version 1.4, I added a new settings section (Ultimate BB » Misc.) where you can opt to turn off the “hide spoilers from RSS feeds” feature. This will remove the error, but it means that spoilers will not be removed from RSS feeds/e-mails. You can still use the shortcode in posts, just be mindful of your RSS/e-mail readers!

Widgets Fix

I fixed a problem where some widgets might be adding in random paragraph tags where they shouldn’t be.
